Everyone’s childhood was traumatic because all children are open and sensitive spirits eager to learn and love in a sharp and dangerous world. Many people do not realize just how stressful their childhood was.
It is also difficult to fully understand how those tough traumatic moments and those difficult people we had to endure often have lasting effects on our decisions well into adulthood. For example, many of us are still recovering from the prison system that was public schooling. And we often miss the important shift from childhood into adulthood.
Even though our society has lost the collective rites of passage that help young people shift into adulthood, we can each be aware of the value of such ceremony and give it to ourselves at any age. If you find that you are tense, fearful, angry, or distressed for ‘no apparent’ reason, you may want to consider journeying back into your childhood to heal old wounds. I have spent the last four years of my life doing just that and I am here to say, it is worth the effort to brave your past. What emerges is a deep rooted awareness of true reality. Everyone’s healing path is different but it always requires courage. I encourage you to find your own courage and I offer my own discoveries in the hope that you will find the tools you need to live a joyful life.
Tami Simons podcast, Insights at the Edge, interviews the worlds leading innovators of alternative healing. It is here that I discovered the work of Donna Eden, James Gordon, Cheri Huber, and many others.
Peter Levin’s work on healing trauma teaches that animals survive the incomprehensible stress of being hunted by using an instictive physical process of shaking the body. This shaking allows them to return to their inherently peaceful state just moments after the trauma of being stalked. My physical body was desperately in need of such a process. Through a series of events which could only be described as Divine I found an energy healer who took me and my body the rest of the way through the necessary healing process. Whenever anyone earnestly seeks for help, as I did, I am certain that divine forces of Grace surround you and carry you to the connections you need. You need only seek in earnest and you WILL find help.
Healing trauma is a space odyssey unlike anyone else’s journey. Follow your feelings towards what feels better and better. Sometimes that may involve stepping into rage or fear. Let go of the cultural beliefs that those emotions should be avoided. Know that you have the right to feel as you feel. Follow the quiet voice underneath all the others. Find some kind of activity that brings simple joy and open up to it like a child. Truth rises to the surface of life situations like water in oil. No matter how long it takes or how deeply buried that truth is- know that it is rising. Let it rise and follow that movement wherever it takes you, even if it shifts your entire world. Be kind to yourself the way you would be kind to a broken leg. Know that you are always healing.
There is nothing we are here to do on this Earth that is more important than following our truth towards greater clarity. It is said when speaking of all our worldly success that “you can’t take it with you” when you die. And that is true. One day your house, your books, your pictures, your car, your money, and all your 10,000 things will be transfered to someone else. But the truth and consciousness you discover on your life path IS something you can and will take with you when you die because that truth is your true self, your primary being. You are an eternal continuum of energy. And that energy is made of Truth itself. How you embrace the struggles of this life has everything to do with how you will expand beyond this life into the next expression of self.
The Tibetans, in all their meditative wisdom, advise that we ‘die before we die…’ Though this may sound grim to our death-fearing Western culture, it is actually suggesting that we live inside the awareness of our ever expanding and inherently eternal nature. Know that you are an infinite healing system. No matter what you have endured, you can heal and thrive.
